A new technology can only truly add value if it fits naturally into the work that someone has been doing for years.

Orsolya Kukla works as a specialist foot care podiatrist in Kisújszállás. Day in, day out, she meets people who come to her with various foot problems, complaints or simply questions. For her, it has therefore always been important not just to look at the symptom, but to get to know the foot itself as well as possible.

We asked her to tell us why she joined IntactBody, what she likes about the XFeet system, and what her experiences were during the initial assessments.

What appealed to you about IntactBody?

“What appealed to me most was that it wasn’t just about a single tool, but a well-thought-out system that’s already up and running.

As well as running my own practice, there are loads of tasks that aren’t directly related to the profession itself. Online presence, booking appointments, communication, administration – setting all these up separately takes a huge amount of time and energy.

With IntactBody, I could see that there was already a unified infrastructure in place for all of this. This means I can focus my attention primarily on what really matters: the people who come to see me and my professional work.

That’s why I felt it would be a good decision to join.”

Were you able to integrate it easily into your own work?

“At the start, of course, I too wondered how well it would fit in with what I’d been doing as a podiatrist.

I didn’t want to introduce a completely separate service; instead, I was looking for something that would complement my existing work.

In the end, that’s exactly what happened.

I still treat my clients with the same approach, but I’ve been given a technological tool that allows us to examine the specific characteristics of the foot in even greater detail.”

And what about XFeet? What caught your attention as a professional?

“First and foremost, its precision.

I see a lot of feet in my line of work, so I found it particularly interesting that here we aren’t trying to draw conclusions from a single scan taken whilst the foot is under load.

In the XFeet system, we deal with the right and left feet separately. During the assessment, we position the foot in a controlled manner, and it is in this position that the baseline is established, upon which the design is later based.

I think this is one of its greatest strengths.

The other is the design process itself. The two feet are rarely exactly the same, so it’s only natural to me that the solutions for the right and left sides don’t have to be identical either.

“When I see the level of detail that goes into each design, and just how many small individual characteristics can be taken into account, that’s when I really feel just how personalised this process is.”

What do patients notice about this?

“Perhaps that we really do take the time to carry out the assessment here.

Many have had some sort of foot assessment before, so they have a rough idea of what to expect. Here, however, they’re surprised that we examine each foot separately, position them, check them, and chat throughout the process.

I think that’s what makes the whole experience more personal.

It’s often an interesting experience for them just to see with their own eyes the differences between their right and left feet. At times like this, we get lots of questions, and it’s great to see when someone starts paying closer attention to their own feet.”

What happens once the bespoke insole is ready?

“Everyone looks forward to that moment.

By that point, we’ve already gone through the assessment and discussed the key points, so the patient knows exactly that the insole being made is tailored to their feet.

When it arrives, we naturally try them on, check them in their shoes, and then it’s time for everyday use.

I always tell them that it takes a little time to get used to them. It’s not worth judging how they’ll feel in the long term based on just a few minutes.”

What sort of feedback do you get?

“A wide variety.

Some people say they find it more comfortable for longer walks or standing all day. Others simply say they’ve got so used to their own insoles that they miss them if they’re not in a different pair of shoes.

For me, however, these aren’t perhaps the most important comments.

It’s when someone comes back.

When they approach me with confidence again, or when a new client arrives having been recommended to me by a former patient.

I think, as a professional, these are what mean the most.”

What surprises me most during a survey?

“People’s curiosity.

Most people use their feet their whole lives without really giving them a second thought. They walk, work and play sport, but rarely stop to see how they actually work.

During the assessment, however, they have loads of questions.

I love that moment when someone isn’t just looking for an answer, but actually starts to take a genuine interest in their own feet.”

What has this new field given you as a professional?

“First and foremost, experience.

The more different feet I assess, the more connections I see. It’s a continuous learning process, and I think that’s what really helps a professional develop.

For me, IntactBody and XFeet haven’t replaced what I’ve been doing so far, but have added a new opportunity that fits in well with my own professional approach.”

What do you like best about it all?

“The fact that it’s remained people-centred.

There may be modern technology and a very precise digital planning process behind it, but when someone comes to see me, we sit down just as we always have, have a chat, I listen to them, and we go through the assessment together.

For me, that’s the most important part.”
